Ryokan
This long-established inn has been in operation since the Edo period. The name comes from Matsuo Basho’s An Account of Eighteen View Tower. Rooms feature traditional Japanese design and have a view of the Nagara River. There are also some with open-air baths, and those facing west are especially popular for the beautiful evening scenery. Enjoy a herbal or a ‘silky’ bath, or a bath inside what was a storehouse in the Meiji period, and feel the history.
